Tips To Avoid A Writer’s Rut

One of the most difficult things about blogging is just that - blogging. Well, actually writing your blog post. Sometimes you can just sit down on the computer and little comes to mind. This is what we call a writer’s rut. Over at BloggingTips, they’ve come up with a few ways to avoid a writer’s rut, some of which I’ve placed below. Follow the link for more tips!

Recently in my own blog I’ve covered the topic of writers block a few times.  Sometimes we don’t suffer writer’s block, but writer’s rut.  Today I want to give some tips on breaking out of a writers rut.  Generally speaking, most web writers write content and it can be fun and adventurous because we learn new things, but sometimes it can start to feel more like work than we want it to. Even topics we love can become overwhelming if it’s the only thing we focus on.

What can we do?  Try something different, get away from content for a day. Not only can these exercises help you overcome a rut in your writing but they also awaken the creative side.

Write poetry.  You’re not a poet?  That’s fine, just grab one of your favorite poems, maybe one by Poe and rewrite it.  It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, the objective is to use words you wouldn’t normally use in writing and to write something different.  Poetry is a great outlet for expanding your vocabulary too.
